Twister MKII

The evolution of the wyattlouisjane fly vice

The new innovation, “Twister MKII”

Naturally as one would expect, the Twister Mk II came from making a few tweaks and changes to the Twister Mk I.  As with all the vices we’ve created the goal, (and with most of what we do), is to keep things as simple and effective as we possibly can.  Nuts and bolts are pretty much what make up the Twister fly vice.  Simple materials that are available to everybody, a bit of tig welding and a few other bits of stainless steel, and there you have it.

Twister MII

On the Mk II we’ve changed out the four-nut confirmation at the top with a machined round bar, and made the collet that holds the hook detachable.  Having a detachable collet means you can change it out to suit the fly you’re tying.  At present we find that three sizes of collet are enough to fit the purpose.  A 5mm, for tying those little dries and the like, 6mm is more of a general purpose and not to bad for most flies you’ll tackle, and the larger 8mm good for the big streamers and saltwater type flies.  You can pretty much tie anything on any of them, but having different sizes, seemed like a good idea.

Collets

Shown above are the three detachable collets, to be honest they’re still in development and need a little tweaking. However, having said that, they do work pretty well and quite a few flies have been made using all three, but as with everything we do, we’re always looking to improve and make things just that little bit better.
