The Fly Tying Vise

A brief history of the "Twister MK III"

The Fly Vices of “WyattLouisJane”

Twister MK III rotary fly tying vise

The finial unit in the Twister range of the WyattLouisJane stable of portable fly tying vices, well probably anyway, as innovations are always on the cards.  What started as a simple nut and bolt type construction has evolved into the unit we have now.  Still a simple and effective fly tying vise, as can be seen a few minor changes have been made.  Bearings have been added to the main rotation holder, some units have thrust bearings, some have standard bearings, this results in the reduction, if not elimination of wobble in the rotating head.  Creating a much smother rotation action.

And the latest innovation is the hardened and tempered spring steel jaws, pretty much standard on all the vises now, unless stainless is requested.

Anyway that’s probably enough from me in this section, what do others have to say about it?

Testimonial

Rotary Vice

I received my rotary vice yesterday 01-10-22. It was ordered through Colin Cox of the Rotorua Angling Association two weeks ago. It arrived in good order and on time.

Thank you

I have already tied flies on it and I am impressed with the product.

The circumferential play in the rotational function is non-existent

The concentricity of the hook shank relative to the rotary function is excellent.

The central stem (threaded bar) is rigid even with strong thread pressure.

All the locking points when applied are tight and functional

I particularly like the use of “off the shelf parts” used in the production. Should spares be required.

The cosmetic effect is pleasing by what appears to be a Damask finish to the jaws.

The jaws grip the hook firmly and the shape of the jaws allows plenty of tying access even around the bend.

All in all a very satisfactory product which, I am sure will be a pleasure to use

I am sure you are aware of the points I have made. This is my assessment of a good product based on my experience as a certified engineering inspector with Rolls-Royce Limited Derby England and Support Engineer with Air New Zealand Mangere Auckland

You may if you so wish use all or part thereof of this testimonial
